Polyester

"Sumethin' Ta Creez To"

SUMTHIN+TA+CREEZ+TO+front.jpg

"The El Co"

I am back to posting after a long break from the blog.  BUT it is summer time and I figured what better time to get back to sharing the music that I love.  So, first off this track slapps and only reaffirms the movement that is growing out of the west coast.  With up and coming artists such as Dom Kennedy, Casey Veggies, Overdoz., Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul, and many more California is back on top (at least in my opinion).  Polyester is a dope producer who's style and flow remind me of the late great K-Dee.  "The El Co" is a great summer time track to just chill and do what you do to, whatever that is.  This track is available on Sumthin Ta Creez To, Polyester's new Mixtape available for download here http://hulkshare.com/7f1s0m3aw9fx.

Until Next Time,

'Throwback Joint' : People Under the Stairs

"San Francisco Knights"

This one of my favorite cuts of all time! This beat is straight crazy.  If you don't know about these guys by now...

Ab-Soul

"Drift Away"

Ab-Soul - Drift Away from n8bombay on Vimeo.

"Turn Me Up" featuring Kendrick Lamar

Ab-Soul- "Turn Me Up" ft. Kendrick Lamar from CALMATIC on Vimeo.

Ab-Soul's real creative with his flow and has collabed with a few up and coming artists out of Los Angeles including Dom Kennedy and Kendrick Lamar (plus more).  Down to earth and honesty is what you get out of this guy and I can really respect that.  Ab-Soul recently dropped Long Term Vol. 2: Lifestyles of the Broke and Almost Famous which is available for download here http://www.djbooth.net/index/mixtapes/entry/ab-soul-longterm-2/.

Kendrick Lamar

"She Needs Me"

Kendrick Lamar She from JeromeD.com on Vimeo.

"P&P 1.5" featuring Ab-Soul

Kendrick Lamar from JeromeD.com on Vimeo.

I've been meaning to post about this guy for a minute.  Kendrick is hot and you might have heard rumors of a feature on Detox.  In my opinion this guy is blowing up period, no if ands or buts about it.  He dropped a free EP in late 2009 which you can download that along with the rest of his mixtapes here at http://www.datpiff.com/mixtapes-search.php?criteria=keyword:kendrick%20lamar. Real talk give it a listen.  Also Kendrick Lamar will be releasing a mixtape with J. Cole soon so look out for that too.

Casey Veggies

"Sleeping In Class"

"Ridin' Roun Town"

Casey Veggies from JeromeD.com on Vimeo.

CV is a Cali, more specifically Inglewood, native and he dropped a free LP in January called "Sleeping In Class" which is available for free download here http://caseyveggies.com/cv/.  If you want to call this release a mixtape you can but to me it sounds like a full LP.  Solid production and dope content...what more can you ask for?  To me the stand out track is "Ridin Round Town" The track is hot! High energy and a catchy hook on top of an illl beat.  Trust me and pick this one up okaaaye!

Actual Proof

"The Talented Tenth"

"Genius"

ACTUAL PROOF - GENIUS from Pricefilms on Vimeo.

"Skate Kids"

ACTUAL PROOF - SKATE KIDS from Pricefilms on Vimeo.

Conscious lyrics paired with 9th Wonder's (Also Khrysis and Amp) beats is a breath of fresh air.  Actual Proof hails from 9th's hometown of North Carolina and are somewhat reminiscent of an early Little Brother.  Their first release dropped in the summer of 2010 and was title "The Free EP" and is available for download here http://www.megaupload.com/?d=LIKPL98W.  Recently they dropped a free LP titled "The Talented Tenth" which I strongly advise everybody download (http://www.djbooth.net/index/mixtapes/entry/actual-proof-the-talented-tenth/).

Exile & J. Mitchell

"Your Summer Song"

Exile from JeromeD.com on Vimeo.

Exile is always killer on the production and J. Mitchell is new to me but this track is hot.  If anybody knows what album this is off of or any of her other work please enlighten me.

Shawn Jackson

"Lil Big Man"

Shawn Jackson from JeromeD.com on Vimeo.

"Soopafly"

SHAWN JACKSON - "SOOPERFLY" from James Mann on Vimeo.

Raw Hip Hop with some of that Cali flavor.  Shawn Jackson goes hard and so do the beats he flows over.  On the low they remind me of Dilla's production.  I'm saying it right now I believe this cat will do big things.  He's got two mixtapes out right now Hollywood Shuffle Side A and Hollywood Shuffle Side B. Both are available for free download at http://kevinnottingham.com/2010/05/10/shawn-jackson-hollywood-shuffle-side-a-mixtape/ and http://kevinnottingham.com/2010/10/28/shawn-jackson-hollywood-shuffle-side-b-mixtape/.  Get it.

Smoke DZA

"Marley & Me (Remix)" featuring Devin the Dude, Curren$y, and Asher Roth

"Continental Kush Breakfast" featuring Den-10

For those that stay smokey this is for you.  Good production and solid lyricism. DZA's got some clownin' punchlines.  The Harlem native has got three projects out right now the most recent being "George Kush Da Button (Deluxe Edition)" which is available for sale at http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/george-kush-da-button-the/id399781911.  His two other mixtapes are "Substance Abuse" and "Substance Abuse 1.5: The Headstash" which are available for FREE download at http://www.djbooth.net/index/mixtapes/entry/smoke-dza-substance-abuse/.  For the first time in a while I've been impressed with new releases in the past couple years.  Make sure to support these up and coming artists so they can continue to supply the speakers with ill sounds.

'Throwback Joint' : Boogiemonsters

"Honeydips In Gotham"

One of my favorite groups of all time.  They released two albums in the 90's.  "Riders of the Storm: The Underwater Album" in 1994 and "God Sound" in 1997.  Both albums are more than worth a listen.

The Nice Guys

"The Good Shepard"

The Niceguys - The Good Shepherd from Evesborough Films on Vimeo.

"Not At All"

The Niceguys Feat. Jack Freeman "Not At All" from Evesborough Films on Vimeo.

The Nice Guys consisting of Easy Yves Saint (Vocals), Free (Beats), Chrostolph (Beats), and DJ Candlestick (On the 1s and 2s).  I like these guys man their just having fun and thats what good music is all about.  Easy Yves Saint shows a lot of versatility as an MC and proves to be very intelligent and relevant in each song.  "Not At All" is like the modern version of The Root's "What They Do." The Niceguys have an LP out right now called "The Show." You can purchase the album and watch other videos at http://thenicelook.com/LOOK.html and you can listen to the whole album at http://www.myspace.com/theniiceguys.

Skyzoo & !Illmind

"#allaboutthat"

I've been listening to Skyzoo since he collaborated with 9th Wonder on that "Cloud 9: A Three Day High" joint (that they actually recorded in 3 days).  This just goes to show that good MCs need good producers.  Sky went from 9th to !Illmind, not bad right?  He continues to impress me with the depth of his lyrics and he's keeping NY on the map.  If you ain't got it already get Skyzoo & !Illminds LP "Live From the Tape Deck."  To listen some of to some of the cuts off the album visit http://www.myspace.com/skyzoo.

Scribes

"Roll My Way"

SCRIBES x ROLL MY WAY (dir. by JON JON) from Jon Jon on Vimeo.

206! North Seattle in case you didn't know. Scribes got it on this one.  Just dropped his free LP for a limited time called "What Was Lost."  To learn more about Scribes and download the new LP visit http://scribesmusic.com/.  I got it...why don't you?

Versis

"The Journey (4U)"

Versis "Journey" from JeromeD.com on Vimeo.

I just came upon this video and have never heard of this cat before but this track is dope.  Way laid back feel good music. To download Versis new album "iLLCANDESCENT" go to http://versis.bandcamp.com/. Support good Hip Hop!

Dom Kennedy

"Of All Time"

DOM KENNEDY from JeromeD.com on Vimeo.

New Dom Kennedy shit is hot, what more can I say?

Stalley

"Lincoln Way Nights (Intellectual Trunk Music)"

"Slapp"

STALLEY - "SLAPP" from Creative Control on Vimeo.

"Babblin"

BABBLIN from Creative Control on Vimeo.

Make it SLAPP! Stalley just dropped his free LP "Lincoln Way Nights" which is my favorite LP that has dropped in 2011 thus far.  Lets begin with the production.  Rashad who is featured singing on "Slapp" is not only a great vocalist but an amazing producer.  The beats are very original, have boomin bass and subtle elements that bring all the tracks together.  Stalley's rhymes are good for hip hop music.  Positive ideas with educated content.  Oh and did I mention the John Mayer feature on "Assassin."  Do yourself a favor and download this album FREE at http://mishkanyc.bandcamp.com/album/presents-stalley-lincoln-way-nights-intelligent-trunk-music.

SOL

"Dear Friends"

"Kick it Wit Chu"

What more can I say about my man Sol.  He's doing big things in the town and continues to gain recognition for his down to earth style and intelligent flow.  I've seen this man live multiple times and have never been disappointed with the quality of the performance.  The energy is always there.  Sol is working on a new album that should be for sale sometime in the near future and I believe he will be releasing one more free EP (Dear Friends Vol. 3?) to share with all his fans.  The video posted above "Dear Friends" is an ode to the fans and stated in the best way possible, Dear Friends.  "Kick It Wit Chu" is one of Sol's new joints (produced by Jacks Green) along with "Feed My Ego."  To find out more info about Sol and download "Dear Friends Vol.1&2" as well his new single visit his website http://solsays.com/.

'Throwback Joint' : Bilal feat. Mos Def & Common

"Reminisce"

This cut features two of my favorite MC's and super producer J Dilla.  This has got to be one of my favorite Dilla beats by far.  Bilal also dropped a new LP about 5 months ago titled "Alright's Revenge" which proved to be another solid release from the Philly native.  He reached recognition from the mellow groove "Soul Sista" which was the single off his first album "1st Born Second," which featured a number of excellent producers.  Bilal's got a lot to offer to the world of R&B and Soul and I strongly suggest you invest in his artistry.  To listen to Bilal's new cut "Restart" visit http://www.myspace.com/bilaloliver.

Foreign Exchange

"Maybe She'll Dream of Me"

Phonte and Nicolay are at it again. With the release of their third album "Authenticity (dropped October 12, 2010) the multi-cultural duo continues toward a soft R&B sound with a sprinkle of Hip Hop mixed in. For those who don't know, the group's name "Foreign Exchange" actually is quit literally a representation of how Phonte and Nicolay began to work together. Nicolay, originally from the Netherlands was discovered by Phonte and they recorded their first album "Connected," while in different countries. Phonte is a lyricist first and it shows in his lyrics throughout the album especially on "Maybe She'll Dream of Me." Other stand out tracks include "Don't Wait" and "Make Me a Fool."

Lace Cadence

"Moonlight"

A little R&B flavor out my home town, Seattle. Lace has got a mixtape out called "Launchpad" and it is available for free at http://www.lacecadence.com/.  The Moonlight video is directed by Jon Jon and features great production and as always dope music to back it up.  This song is catchy as hell.  My favorite line is, "Usually I charge a fee," clownin'.

Murs & Terrace Martin

"Fresh Kicks"

New Murs & Terrace Martin track and I'm feelin' the vibe.  The two first worked together on Murs' solo release "Murs For President" where Terrace Martin produced two tracks.  Apparently the two weren't done working together so they are releasing an album soon called "Melrose."  From what I've heard from this single I'm excited to see what the two can do with an album.

tabi Bonney

"Get Me/Make A Killin"

This guy is a clown haha! The beat on "Get Me" is HOT, makes you wanna bob your head. The videos too funny. tabi just put out an album called Fresh it's worth checking out if you like electronic Hip Hop. To check more of tabi's music visit http://www.myspace.com/tabibonney.

Dom Kennedy

"Watermelon Sundae"

"Future Love"

Dom got that feel goooood music with a Cali twang! "Watermelon Sundae" is one of those songs you just vibe too no matter the situation. Also I really like the way that Dom says HEY before each line. He's telling you to pay attention. The "Future Love" beat is bananas and Dom's laid back flow compliments that well. Another track to check out is "1997" Dom recently put out a video for that. Support good Hip Hop and visit http://www.dopeitsdom.com/ to find more out about Dom Kennedy and download his FREE mixtapes.
